Waxing 101: How to Prepare and What to Do After

Waxing is one of the most effective methods for removing unwanted hair, leaving skin smooth for weeks at a time. Proper preparation and aftercare can make all the difference in your results and comfort level.

Before your appointment, let your hair grow to about a quarter inch — roughly the length of a grain of rice. This gives the wax enough to grip for a clean removal. Avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this disrupts the hair growth cycle.

Exfoliate the area gently one to two days before your appointment. This removes dead skin cells and helps prevent ingrown hairs. However, skip exfoliation on the day of your wax to avoid irritation.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol before your appointment, as they can increase skin sensitivity. If you're concerned about discomfort, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 minutes beforehand.

During your appointment at XOXO Nail & Spa, our experienced estheticians use premium wax formulas designed for sensitive skin. We offer everything from quick eyebrow and lip waxes to full body services including Brazilian waxing.

After your wax, avoid hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise for 24 hours. Heat and sweat can irritate freshly waxed skin. Apply a soothing aloe-based lotion to calm the area and reduce any redness.

Begin gentle exfoliation two to three days after your wax and continue two to three times per week. This prevents ingrown hairs and keeps your skin smooth between appointments.

Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 24 hours after waxing, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays. If you must be outside, apply sunscreen generously to the waxed area.

With proper care, waxing results can last three to six weeks. Regular waxing also leads to finer, sparser hair regrowth over time.
